The spreadsheet will do the following:
Track your manually entered income from appointments, deposits, guest spots, and other sales, and automatically account for and total your shops percentage and/or cap on that percentage (if you have one), as well as any card processing fees, shipping costs, and which account(s) that income was sent to, etc.
Track your manually entered business expenses, booth rents, Home Office deduction amount, potential business mileage, and sort it by category and account used for the transaction, so you always have a bookmark list to every digital bank receipt. This is especially helpful if you use multiple accounts, or if you mix your personal and business transactions in the same accounts, which a lot of Self Employed/Sole Proprietors do.
Provide a Summary Sheet with all of your logged income and expenses in one place, itemized by categories and subcategories so you can see exactly where your money was spent. Monthly income and expense totals per category, and per Tax Quarter, so you can better estimate Quarterly Tax payments. The bottom of the Summary Sheet will plug in all of your logged information, and apply the Self Employment Tax rate, and Annual Federal Income Tax bracket rates, to give you an idea of what your taxes might look like before you apply any Tax Credits you might be eligible for (with links to the IRS site to determine which credits you could be eligible for), or apply other tax situations or sources of income that might apply to you personally. Potential Estimated Quarterly payment amounts are also calculated using your logged income/expenses, and resources are provided to do the calculations yourself and check for even more deduction/Credit eligibilty.
Provide an Info page where you'll enter all of your personalized data that will power the rest of the spreadsheet. This page is the most important page, and contains instructions for each sheet, as well as helpful cited information I've gathered from the IRS website, TurboTax, Nerd Wallet, Tax Act, & The Social Security Administration Website, all concisely boiled down and put together in one place, with guided examples on how to do Self Employment and Income Tax calculations, as well as links to the IRS website where the current/up to date info on doing so can be found. I've also included information about what makes you legally Self Employed VS an Employee, and how that distinction determines whether or not you pay DOUBLE in FICA taxes or not.

DISCLAIMER:
The spreadsheet will NOT do the following:
This spreadsheet isn't professional legal, financial, or tax advice.
This spreadsheet isn't meant to take the place of professional help, or doing the calculations and running all the numbers yourself. I am a Tattoo Artist, I have no professional background or qualifications in taxes, law or accounting whatsoever. All of the info in the sheet is cited from the IRS website itself, or written based on the current standards and law at the time of creation to the best of my unprofessional knowledge. These things are subject to change, and formulas within the spreadsheet may not calculate properly if certain parts of the spreadsheet are altered, deleted or moved incorrectly, so always double check that the calculations, criteria, and tax rates are up to date when using this spreadsheet, and always double check the math yourself! Track your transactions, and do the math yourself using the IRS resources to determine what you owe, if not hire a CPA, Accountant, or Tax Professional to do it for you. I am not and will not be responsible for any mistakes you make, or legal or financial issues you might face by paying your taxes incorrectly. This spreadsheet is available for free-use, and if you choose to download and use it, please inform yourself using the resource links I've provided to the IRS website, and use at your own risk and discretion. If you can afford professional help, please do so! This sheet may or may not be useful to an accountant or CPA if you track your information carefully.

Terms and Conditions

By using the Annual Tattoo Keeper google sheet, you acknowledge that it is a free to use google sheet that is not meant to be taken as professional tax or legal advice of any kind. You agree that you won't take any of the figures, calculations, totals, or estimates at face value, or assume them to be totally accurate. The creator of the google sheet is not a Tax, Legal, or financial professional, and is not giving any legal, financial or tax advice.
The intent of the google sheet is to provide links and resources to actual tax professionals and organizations like the IRS, and information about Labor Rights while being Self Employed, available to everyone free for download. None of it can be guaranteed accurate or current at the time of download, since Tax Rates, Credits, Deductibles and many other factors may change year to year, and can't possibly be predicted by the sheet.
As such, many of these factors are set to be manually entered by the user, and then used to calculate the data within the sheet. Therefore a large responsibility of the calculations working properly lies on the user to carefully input their information and transactions.

You agree that you understand the sheet may be altered, updated, changed, or even removed at any time. You agree that the calculations should be overlooked by a professional, or double checked by yourself to check for any errors or potential margin of error.

I've used bookkeeping softwares, they all have their shortcomings for tracking my tattoo work. For about 3 years I've used a google spreadsheet instead that tracks everything I need to all in one place. Easy. Free.

I took this past slow season and taught myself how to code, and organize the spreadsheet to do WAY more than it did before, to make it easy for anyone to just plug in their information and have a free ledger of all their tattooing info. This basically does what most paid bookkeeping softwares do, but I've catered it to Tattooing and made it available for free.

I spent well over 100 hours researching, teaching myself how to code, troubleshooting multiple drafts of the document, and putting together this spreadsheet for anyone who wants to use it, and it's available to download for free! I can't guarantee it's perfect, but I hope it's helpful. I'm not a tax, legal, or financial professional and none of this is legal, tax or financial advice! Just a resource you can choose to use for free if you wish, at your own discretion and risk.

There seems to be a lot of hooplah in tattooing these days about tattoo artists exploiting each others difficulty with being self employed, and navigating how to pay taxes depending on how you get paid at your shop.
If you can't afford to pay another tattoo artist $5,000+ for some video chats about how to keep track of your finances and overcharge your clients, here's a free google spreadsheet so you can figure out your ethics for free! :)
