This style is iconic for bold linework and colors, and also looks fantastic in all black. Traditional designs are centered around longevity and legibility, which is why they are minimally detailed and bold. It's important that tattoos look good and last a lifetime, since you'll have them for the rest of yours. 

The simple style is legible and admirable from across the room, and leaves room for the skin to continue regenerating for years, with as minimal distortion to the tattoo as possible. The bold and highly saturated design makes this a solid choice for covering up things like old tattoos and scarring.
